Zoom Security

To Set Up Secure Zoom Sessions:

Here are the basic security settings we recommend at the very least:

  1. Add a strong password to the meeting.

    Passcode checkbox

  2. Require a waiting room that would enable you to allow each user one-by-one to the meeting.

    Waiting room checkbox

  3. Require only authenticated users to be able to join. Participants must sign in through SSO (calstatela.zoom.us) in order for them to appear as a verified Cal State LA user. Otherwise, they will show as Guest.

    Authenticated Users checkbox

Additional Meeting Options

  • We suggest to mute participants upon entry to limit distractions.

  • We do not recommend using your Personal Meeting ID for a large number of participants that may be hard to track.

  • Other meeting options may be necessary depending on your classroom activities.

Security Options During a Zoom Session

  • As a host, there is a security button that allows you to enable/disable participant activities. These options can be enabled/disabled anytime during the session, but it is suggested to configure these settings prior to allowing participants in the session.

  • We highly suggest only allowing users that do not have (Guest) in their name.

  • After allowing all necessary participants for the session, you can lock the meeting with the option at the very top of the security settings. You may also hide profile pictures, if desired.

    Lock Meeting

  • We suggest to suspend most of participant activities, especially the option to rename themselves. With the other options, depending on your classroom activity, you may enable/disable each setting to your preference. If you do not want the participants to have any control in the session, you may click the red Suspend Participant Activities button. You may still enable/disable any of the options if you do this.
