The purpose of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is to evaluate the English proficiency of people whose native language is not English. The test uses a multiple-choice format to measure the ability to understand North American English. The test consists of three sections:
- Listening Comprehension - Measures ability to understand English as it is spoken in North America.
- Structure and Written Expression - Measures ability to recognize language that is appropriate for standard written English.
- Reading Comprehension - Measures ability to understand nontechnical reading matter.
Bulletins for the TOEFL are available outside of the Testing Center whenever the Library is open. The testing dates are selected by the computer Test Centers. The TOEFL is now computer based only. For information regarding taking the TOEFL on computer please refer to the TOEFL bulletin. Visit the TOEFL online at http://www.ets.org/toefl or call 609-771-7100.
