Music Composition

About

The music composition program at California State University, Los Angeles offers the Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in Composition, offering students the opportunity to explore and refine their work through the exploration of diverse styles in instrumental, vocal and hybrid electronic ensemble settings. Each semester students have the opportunity to have their work performed publicly in the Student Composer Forum. In addition to working with department ensembles, professional groups specializing in the performance of new music have worked with our students on campus in live recording and master class sessions. These ensembles include Yarn-Wire and Warp Trio from New York, the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, TM+ from Paris, the Villiers String Quartet from England and the Eclipse Quartet of Los Angeles. Alumni of the program have gone on to further their studies at prestigious composition programs including Cal Arts, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, UCLA, and the University of Michigan.
