About the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program
The REU program at the California State University Los Angeles, is a 10-week research-intensive program for undergraduate students in the sciences and engineering who are interested in research in the broad field of energy and sustainability. Students will work with faculty in various fields, including chemistry, biology, geography, physics, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering, computer science and technology to conduct research on topis related to photovoltaics (solar cells), fuel cells, combustion, biofuels creation and characterization, carbon sequestration, and others. The research spans the range from computational to wet chemistry to field research, all under the direct mentorship of faculty. Students work in teams, whenever possible. Through weekly presentations and similar activities, students interact closely with their peers, other stuents, including graduate students, and faculty.

Program Details
This is the fifth year of this REU program. This year, the fellowship starts on June 14th and runs through August 20th. In the past, we have made allowances for students to start and/or end of different dates (because of their campus's academic calendars), though this is handled on a case-by-case basis and we discourage this. The students will each receive a stipend of $4,000. Limited support (travel and housing) is available for students who are travelling to Los Angeles for the REU program.

The deadline for the application is February 26, 2010. Fellowships will be announced on or after March 12, 2010. The application can be found here: REU application. Please submit the application by clicking "Save Application" at the bottom of the form. Rename the PDF according to the instructions provided in the package. If you are having trouble emailing the application, please mail ot or fax it in to the Center

We look forward to meeting you soon and good luck!
