CAPSTONE SENIOR DESIGN
Cal State LA’s Engineering, Computer Science, & Technology (ECST) college wants to partner with you! Through the Capstone Senior Design Program, corporate and university partnerships are established to provide highly engaging and relevant professional practice experiences for our ECST students.
How It Works
ECST Capstone Senior Design Projects provide students with a capstone experience in which they work with a client (the company or industry partner) and apply their theoretical knowledge to solve a real problem.
Regardless of project type, student teams are expected to meet the needs of their client, and deliver a product at the end of the academic year, as they acquire the leadership and technical skills needed to hit the ground running in a business environment.
June & July
Clients submit projects for consideration
September
Capstone kicks off
Students work together with technical liaisons and advisors on a weekly basis. They present project plans and results as well as react to changing information as the year progresses.
December
Design review
Students continue to work together with technical liaisons and advisors, focusing on completing the project and reporting results. The project is thoroughly documented.
May

PROJECT ROLES
STUDENT TEAM
A small team of ECST students dedicates a year to a project.
ADVISOR
A faculty advisor or volunteer advisor assists the student teams as needed to provide internal coaching and direction.
LIAISON
A technical liaison from the sponsoring company contacts the team weekly to provide external guidance and technical knowledge.
Project Outcomes
Deliverables can include a physical prototype, software package, preliminary design, alternative analysis, and technical report.
Our students complete their senior year ready to hire, having acquired additional professional skills such as negotiating, project planning, presenting, adjusting to changing conditions, and writing reports.
