Team WOW-Mobile

Cal State LA Team WOW-Mobile has been selected to participate in the virtual CSU I-Corps August Sprint where research teams will have 2 weeks to explore biotechnology commercialization.   • What is the inspiration behind the project?

Individuals with lower mobility impairment, for example, due to spinal cord injury, suffer significantly higher risk for cardiometabolic disorders.  Research clearly indicates the benefit of regular physical activity to combat cardiometabolic disorder.  However, people who use wheelchairs face substantial barriers to regular exercise.

  • What is the goal?

The WOW-Mobile Fitness system is a mobile app-based fitness system designed for individuals who use wheelchairs to improve cardiometabolic fitness by enabling exercise in the convenience of their own homes and with the flexibility of their own schedules.  WOW-Mobile motivates and facilitates exercises that can be performed in wheelchairs through gamifying exercises, enabling a multi-user virtual community, and providing metrics which quantify fitness levels so that users can track their progress.
