Professor Elaine Wittenberg to Receive 48k Award from National Cancer Institute

Department of Communication Studies Professor Elaine Wittenberg to receive 48k award from National Cancer Institute for the Improving Patient-Centered Communication in Cancer Care Project.

Elaine Wittenberg, Department of Communication Studies, is Co-Principal Investigator of a grant from the National Cancer Institute for an R25 Cancer Education Project titled "Improving Patient-Centered Communication and Cancer Care" (R25CA174627). Using the COMFORT Communication training curriculum, developed by Wittenberg and colleagues, the grant funds two-day communication courses to competitively selected oncology nurses and gives them the opportunity to apply these skills at their own institutions and implement quality improvement changes targeting communication. This is the final year of the project which has provided training to 385 oncology nurses who have trained an additional 10,000 other healthcare professionals at their home institution.
