Alan Painter
Senior Manager, Buildings and Systems Engineering
United Parcel Service (UPS)
Alan Painter joined the DAB in the Fall of 2024. He is the Senior Manager of Buildings and Systems Engineering (BaSE) at UPS in Southern California. UPS has over 20 Cal State LA alumni working in the BaSE department throughout Southern California. BaSE is responsible for maintaining conveyors, sorting equipment, facilities, and implementing new innovations for package sorting operations.
Alan graduated from California State University of Fullerton with a Public Relations degree. Since beginning his UPS career in 2018, he has held progressive leadership roles across multiple high-volume facilities, including maintenance supervision, automation management, and regional training leadership.
Alan has played key roles in several major facility openings and automation implementations, gaining deep expertise in package processing systems, operational flow, and cross-functional coordination. His portfolio includes leading maintenance and engineering teams, managing complex 7-day operations, and overseeing critical automation systems in both ground and air logistics environments.
Alan also served as the UPS West Region BaSE Center of Excellence Training Manager, where he focused on developing technical capabilities and standardizing best practices across the region.
Alan’s goal as a Dean’s Advisory Board member is to provide industry support and feedback to students preparing to enter the workforce. Additionally, to spread awareness about the types of engineering roles available in large corporations that may not be familiar to a graduating student.
