Minoring in Political Science

The Department offers four minor programs for students majoring in other fields. For each minor below, a link is provided to a "Degree Worksheet" that specifies the exact courses required for completion of the minor.

Minors offered:

  • General Minor (Course Plan) -- The General minor in Political Science provides students with a broad overview of the sub-fields that compose the discipline. The minor provides a foundation for active participation in public life and politics-related occupations, and for graduate study in political science and related fields.

  • Global Politics Minor (Course Plan) -- The Global minor in Political Science is designed for students whose career or personal interests would be enhanced by a study of international relations and comparative government. The minor includes courses in world politics, international relations, international political economy, U.S. foreign policy, and the governments and politics of several areas of the world.

  • Prelegal Studies Minor (Course Plan) --  The Pre-Legal minor in Political Science provides students with an understanding of the American legal system that is useful preparation for law school or law-related occupations.

  • Public Administration Minor (Course Plan) -- The Public Administration minor in Political Science provides undergraduate preparation for career government service or positions in nonprofit organizations.

Note: Students who file for graduation and complete all major and GE requirements will be graduated from the university even if they have not completed the minor. Under these circumstances, there will be no opportunity to complete the coursework necessary for the minor. Therefore, it is required that students complete their minor either before or simultaneous with the completion of the graduation requirements for their major.
