What is the Early Career Faculty Program?

The Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging and the Office of Faculty Affairs are excited to announce the Early Career Faculty Program. We hope you explore the offerings.

With monthly events, this program aims to enhance early career faculty success at Cal State LA. These events range from workshops and feedback sessions to networking sessions and informal lunches. In addition, we will incorporate sessions through the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity (NCFDD).

Who Should Participate?

This program is ideal for first-year faculty (tenure-track and lecturers) and faculty hired during the past three years. Upon completing the Early Career Faculty Program (by participating in a minimum of six events listed below), a letter of completion from the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging and the Office of Faculty Affairs will be added to your future evaluation Retention, Tenure, and Promotion (RTP) files (e.g., Personnel Information File-PIF).

Monthly emails will be sent to encourage registering for events and provide updates on new events added. In addition, you will be entered into raffles to win one or more Cal State LA spirit gear, campus event tickets, and lunch and coffee vouchers.

Program Objectives

Faculty who complete the required parts of the program should:

  • Be able to navigate the first years at Cal State LA effectively by implementing strategies that will increase confidence and well-being as a faculty member.
  • Know the diverse campus community, the resources, and campus efforts that support diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Be able to connect with and build relationships with students, faculty, and staff from various units across campus.
  • Identify equity-minded strategies to support student success.
