Theatre/Dance Undergraduate Programs

The Department of Theatre and Dance offers a robust liberal arts degree program, leading to the BA in Theatre.  The department also offers a minor in Theatre.  Information about all our program tracks can be found on the University Catalog Website.

Students pursuing the Bachelor of Arts in Theatre at Cal State LA choose their degree track by declaring either the Performance Option or the Design & Production Option.

Students in both options take a core of required theatre courses totaling 29 units. This core coursework consists of Acting I, Theatre Analysis, a lower division Dance course, two tech courses with requisite labs, studies in theatre history/research/writing, Principles of Directing, and Praxis.

The purpose of this core coursework is to develop well-rounded artists who possess a breadth and depth of knowledge which will serve whatever professional or personal artistic goals they seek.
