David Olsen

David Olsen

David Olsen (Rabbi) is the Chair of Communication Studies at Cal State LA, which means he has made a successful career out of talking and acting. This is his third production under the fearless direction of Meredith Greenburg, who continues to demonstrate both vision and a remarkable tolerance for academics with stage dreams.  He previously appeared as Old Man Strong in Urinetown and, in a bold commitment to not learning new roles, reprised it for the 2021 filmed production, both directed by Greenburg. His theatrical origins trace back to age 12 as Oliver in Oliver! (if you ask nicely, he can still sing “Where Is Love?” in the original octave), later peaking emotionally as Billy Bigelow in Carousel, and then spiraling into artistic excess by playing every character in Becket or the Honor of God, because clearly no one else could be trusted.  David dedicates this performance to the students in the cast, who consistently ensured he was on the correct side of the stage (“Rabbi, Rabbi—you’re over here”), gently but firmly guided him to the right spot on stage, drilled choreography into him during breaks, and made him laugh at every rehearsal.

Teshan Teachey

Teshan Teachey

Teshan Teachey (Mendel) is excited to be a part of the production of Fiddler on the Roof. Currently in his sophomore year at Cal State Los Angeles, he has been in the productions of Airness in the role of Golden Thunder, featured in the John Lion New Plays Festival in the role of Basil in Who-Don-it?, and Celebramos! This marks an exciting new chapter in his performing career. During his time at West Valley, Teshan portrayed Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls, Wadsworth in Clue, Harry MacAfee in Bye Bye Birdie, and both the Spirit of Christmas Yet to Come and Mr. Fezziwig in A Christmas Carol. He cherished every moment on that stage and is eager to continue his journey in theater. Beyond theater, Teshan enjoys a variety of hobbies, including drawing, cosplay, dancing, 3D Modeling, singing, skateboarding, and playing a variety of musical instruments. He also spent two rewarding years in the school band, delighting in the experience of playing at football games. Teshan continues to look forward to his time performing here. He would love to thank the Howards for their continued love and support.

His first on-stage role was President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in Annie Jr. at Torres High School (proof that, despite his opinions on musical theater, it always welcomes him with open arms and catchy tunes). Known as a natural speaker among his peers, Arty initially majored in Communications Studies and minored in Theater. He first took his talents to Cal State LA's Forensics Speech and Debate team, where he won multiple awards for his informative speech on Mountain Dew. After rediscovering his passion for entertainment, he eventually replaced his major with Theater, leaving Communications Studies behind. Since this decision, he has been involved in several student-led film projects and is currently doing voice work as character Jude for the indie audiobook series The Rift-A-Verse. While he aspires to be a voice-over artist first and foremost, he continues to explore other forms of acting. Whether he is on stage, in front of a camera, or in his shoddy homemade voice booth, Arty wants nothing more than to put on a show and to make an audience laugh, cry, or both at the same time. So long as he entertains, he is happy.
