Theatre Audition Information
The Department of Theatre and Dance will hold General Auditions in the fall for our fall/spring productions as well as for all Theatre Performance Option majors and MFA Actors for whom auditioning is mandatory.
WHEN: Tuesday, August 21 - beginning at 6:00pm
Thursday, August 23 - beginning at 6:00pm
Callbacks for Fall productions will be Sat 8/25 and/or 8/26 - TBD
WHERE: State Playhouse - Theatre Building
WHO: Everyone is welcome. All majors!
Theatre Performance option and MFA Acting students are required to attend auditions.
WHAT TO BRING:
Please bring headshots/resumes if you have them. Do not worry if you don't!!!
Prepare one monologue - 2-3 minutes/or 2 short monologues (total time not to exceed 3 minutes).
If you do not have a monologue prepared and memorized, we will have material for you to read. (It is much better to come prepared with something than to cold read, but it is the first week of school - so no worries!!)
Please come at least 15 minutes prior to your audition time. You will need to check in with the monitor, fill out whatever additional forms you need to fill out, and get ready. You never know when we will be running early and having you there will make things easier! We will be taking photos of all who come to audition.

The following productions/events will be represented and casting at these auditions:
- We, the Invisibles by Susan Soon He Stanton (Fall 18) - directed by Guest Director, Randee Trabitz
- Antigone (Fall 18) - directed by Dr. James Hatfield
- The Unseen Hand (Spring 19) - directed by Stephen Rothman
- Dry Powder by Sarah Burgess (Spring 19) - directed by MA candidate Tim Redmond
- Strange Loops (Fall 18) - an Improv Workshop led by Sylke Meyer
Spring productions will be present (The Unseen Hand and Dry Powder) but not holding call backs until later in Fall semester.

Some Department policies:
- It is department practice to cluster auditions in order for shows that have overlapping rehearsal cycles to be fairly cast.
- All students must have at least a 2.5 GPA in order to participate in production. No exceptions will be made.
- Theatre auditions are open to all Cal State LA students, regardless of major or course of study.
- A student may not be cast in 2 lead roles when the rehearsal schedules overlap. Working as a Stage Manager or Assistant Stage Manager is considered having a leading role.
- Priority in casting will be given to current Cal State LA students. Unless there has been prior approval and discussion with the Department Chair and the Season Committee, casting from outside the current enrolled student pool is not acceptable. Our commitment is to our current students.
- The Department of Theatre and Dance and the MFA in TVFT are committed to a diverse and inclusive community which is reflected in our productions.
