Director's Note

When I first read 'Eurydice,' I was immediately captivated by the sheer beauty of its poetic language. Sarah Ruhl masterfully reimagines the age-old myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, offering a profound and entirely new perspective as we navigate the world through Eurydice's eyes. What I find most captivating about this play are the timeless themes it explores: love, loss, the art of letting go, and the enigmatic realm of the afterlife. Taking the helm of this project has been a personal journey for me, as Eurydice delves deep into the complexities of moving forward, relinquishing our hold on the past, and embracing the uncertain future. It's a theme I personally resonate with because, like many, I have found solace in clutching onto the familiar, even when I know I should release my grip. It's this very struggle between the known and the unknown that infuses the play with a sense of universality, inviting us all to ponder our own attachments and the bittersweet beauty of letting go.

I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional cast, the dedicated crew, the creative designers, and the unwavering support of our esteemed faculty. It's through your collective efforts that we've brought this poetic journey to the stage. Thank you for your commitment and the magic you've infused into this experience. I'm glad we made this journey through Eurydice a memorable one, together.

With immense appreciation,
-Henry Alexander Meza
