RESEARCH ROUNDTABLE 4---RESEARCH FOCUSED ON METHODS AND MATERIALS: The roundtables in this session showcase research at the intersections of curriculum and teaching methodologies. The roundtables offer complex and varied studies centered on how teachers, students, families and other stakeholders approach content and pedagogy across a range of school and community contexts.

Two education liaison models seek to improve educational outcomes of foster youth.

A paper session at the Annual Meeting of the American Educational Research Association, Philadelphia, PA. Youth in foster care have exceedingly poor educational outcomes related to a host of early risk factors and barriers once they enter the foster care system. This presentation describes two different education liaison models that were each designed to address many of the barriers. It shows the strengths of each model over a three-year period for cohorts of youth in foster care supported by the respective education liaison on measures of school stability, academic performance, and school engagement.

Pivotal Response Intervention to improve social communication skills for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders

This workshop will present strategies to improve social interactions for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) using Pivotal Response Training. Various peer mediated and adult facilitated strategies will be presented as they have been applied to students from preschoolers through adolescents. Data from two studies conducted in school settings will be presented including those using technology to improve social and communication skills between students with ASD and their non-disabled peers.

Creating Pecha Kucha Power Point Presentations for Graduate Students

Drs. Joan Fingon, Sharon Ulanoff and Kelly Kotowski (CSULA Ed.D Educational Leadership Alumni) presented at the CSU GRIT Research Symposium at CSULA on March 14, 2015. Pecha kucha power point technique and examples of how the process of transforming a traditional power point presentation into a pecha kucha presentation were described.
