Cal State LA's Department of TVFM Unveils Nation's First Academic Game Show Curriculum

April 23, 2024

Los Angeles, CA - In a pioneering move, Cal State LA is set to unveil the nation's first-ever academic curriculum focused solely on the study and production of game shows. The announcement will take place during the university’s esteemed 25th anniversary celebration of the Golden Eagle Film Festival.

Scheduled for Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the University-Student Union Theatre, the Game Show Panel will mark a significant milestone in the entertainment and academic spheres. The curriculum, a brainchild of industry veterans Bob Boden and Harry Friedman, aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed for successful careers in game show production and development.

The panel will feature notable figures from the industry, including Harry Friedman, Emmy-winning executive producer of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!, and Bob Boden, renowned game show executive producer and co-founder of the National Archives of Game Show History. Joining them will be Rane Laymance, executive director of programming at the Game Show Network, actress and game show host Brooke Burns, and Michael Burger, a versatile host who will moderate the discussion.

In addition to the Game Show Panel, the Golden Eagle Film Festival will offer attendees a rich tapestry of cinematic excellence, with film screenings, panel discussions, and networking opportunities throughout the three-day event. The Department of Television, Film and Media Studies will also provide information and resources on the newly launched Game Show classes, set to commence in Fall 2024.

Parking for media personnel and attendees will be available in designated lots behind the Golden Eagle building and Lot 4, with directions provided on the campus map. The university is conveniently located at the Eastern Avenue exit, San Bernardino Freeway, at the interchange of the 10 and 710 Freeways.
