The Department of Philosophy presents a special lecture by Gabe Greenberg, UCLA.
- VISUAL OBJECTS -
"Normally, perception puts us in touch with the world around us. If I see a tree, the object of my perception is the tree itself. But if I hallucinate a glowing orb, what is the object of my hallucination? There is no glowing orb, but I still take myself to see one, and may even reach out to touch it. What is the nature of this non-existent orb? In this talk I attempt to make sense of the `obscure object' of hallucination.''
Reception to follow in ET A420.
