Join Community Impact Media and Hauser & Wirth LA for the premiere of four student-directed short films featuring LA-based nonprofits dedicated to arts advocacy: Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory, Everybody Dance, Music Mends Minds, Inc., and Painted Brain.
The premiere screening is the culmination of the semester-long Cal State LA course, Community Impact Media. For the Spring 2019 semester, students focused on four nonprofits utilizing the visual and performing arts to impact social justice, and foster diversity and community development. The student-directed documentaries draw attention to the ways in which the local nonprofits are benefiting communities through social support, rehabilitation, empowerment, and education.
Community Impact Media, a shared project between the university and the gallery, provides student filmmakers with hands-on experience in media production and offers storytelling mentorship to guide them through the creation of original short documentaries about the inspiring work of local nonprofit organizations. The course not only encourages students to reimagine the role of filmmakers as neighbors and citizens committed to meaningful social change, but also illustrates each organization’s commitment to engage and develop a positive, lasting relationship with their shared LA community.
This event is free to attend and open to the public, however, due to limited seating, reservations are recommended.
