Dual major is an attractive option for students majoring in another field of Business in the College of Business and Economics. By choosing the Information Systems option in the BSIS program and by taking an additional 8 courses in CIS, a student can obtain a dual major. An example would be to major in both Accounting and Information Systems. It is the equivalent of having two undergraduate degrees in two different disciplines. It is achieved by just taking an additional 32 units (8 courses) of coursework.
- Declare the intention to pursue a dual major by completing the dual-major form
- Get the above form signed by the chairs of both majors of the dual major program being pursued
- Choose the Information Systems option in the BSIS program and not the Information Technology option
- Complete 8 CIS courses, 6 of them required courses and 2 elective courses
- Ensure that the requirements for both degree programs are completed in the same final semester meaning that at least one course from each degree program must be left to be completed in the last semester. In other words, the requirements for one of the degree programs in the dual major cannot be completed ahead of the other degree program.

Note; Enroll in CIS 1200 before taking any other CIS courses and preferably in CIS 3010 before taking any other upper division CIS courses. For a list of all CIS elective courses, refer to the University Catalog displayed below on this page. Also, the Information Systems option requires three courses from one of the disciplines in the College of Business and Economics such as in Accounting, Finance, Management and Marketing. This requirement is automatically satisfied by the elective courses taken in the other non-CIS major of the dual major. Again, please browse the University catalog shown below for the list of elective courses in the other disciplines.
