Spring 2026 Metro U-Pass Information
The Metro U-Pass gives students unlimited rides on transit systems across Los Angeles County that accept TAP, including:
- All Metro bus and Metro rail lines (Excludes Metrolink)
- Foothill Transit local buses and the Silver Streak
- City of Commerce Transit, Culver City Bus, Gardena Transit, LA DASH, Torrance Transit, Long Beach Transit, Montebello Bus Lines, Norwalk Transit, Pasadena Transit, and Santa Monica Big Blue Bus
The Spring 2026 U-Pass costs $72.00 and is valid January 19, 2026 – May 24, 2026 (18 Weeks). The program is subsidized by Metro and Cal State LA Transportation Services.
Spring 2026 Sales Process
Students may now load their U-Pass directly onto the Metro TAP App, allowing you to use your phone as your fare card. This eliminates the need to carry a physical TAP U-Pass card.
Please read the all activation instructions carefully.
All U-Pass purchases are final and non-refundable.
A unique 6-digit activation code is generated when you complete your online purchase.
You must activate this code on the first day of classes on January 19, 2026. IMPORTANT - PLEASE DO NOT ACTIVATE THE CODE EARLIER THAN THIS DATE.
Where to Find Your 6-Digit Code
You can locate your PERMIT/CODE#:
- On your purchase receipt, next to the PERMIT/CODE#
- On the emailed receipt, next to the PERMIT/CODE#
- In your parking account under PERMITS → All Active Permits → Permit #

- Complete the mandatory Metro Survey for first-time users.
- Forward your Metro confirmation email to [email protected] with the subject line: New U-Pass Confirmation.
- Commuter Services will reply within 1–2 business days with instructions on how to complete your purchase.
Returning users who already have a U-Pass can renew online:
- Log in to calstatela.aimsparking.com using campus credentials.
- Select Purchase U-Pass.
- Follow the prompts to complete your purchase.
- You will receive a confirmation email from [email protected] with your 6-digit activation code.
- Your receipt will have a 6-digit activation code listed, next to PERMIT/CODE#.
- Download the Metro TAP App and activate your code.
- Your pass becomes active on January 19, 2026.

For all users who prefer a mobile U-Pass:
- Download the Metro TAP App.
- Log in or create a TAP account.
- Select Add TAP Card to Wallet.
- Choose Use Code.
- Enter your 6-digit PERMIT/CODE# (usable one time only). You must activate this code on the first day of classes on January 19, 2026. IMPORTANT - PLEASE DO NOT ACTIVATE THE CODE EARLIER THAN THIS DATE.
- Your U-Pass be active on the first day of classes.

For returning users who still are using their physical TAP U-Pass card:
Important: If you already activated your code in the TAP App, you cannot activate it on a physical card.
- Visit www.taptogo.net/calstatelaUPASS
- Enter your 20-digit TAP card number on the back of your physical card.
- Enter your 6-digit activation code from your receipt
- Hit Submit
- Your card will now be valid to use for Spring 2026
Note: The activation code can be used only once. You must activate this code on the first day of classes on January 19, 2026. IMPORTANT - PLEASE DO NOT ACTIVATE THE CODE EARLIER THAN THIS DATE.
If you lose your physical U-Pass card, contact [email protected] for instructions and authorization to purchase a replacement. A replacement fee applies.

U-Pass FAQ’s
All currently enrolled students are eligible.
No, students cannot possess a Cal State LA semester parking permit and a valid U-Pass at the same time.
Yes, you must have a valid Cal State LA student ID. If you do not have your campus ID, you must obtain one from the campus OneStop office.
For Spring 2026 semester, the U-Pass will cost $72.00.
U-Pass is valid on all local Metro bus and rail, as well as Foothill Silver Streak (between El Monte and Union Station only), Culver City Bus, GTrans, LA DASH, Torrance Transit, Long Beach Transit, Montebello Bus Lines, Norwalk Transit, Pasadena Transit, and Big Blue Bus.
U-Pass is not valid on Metrolink. U-Pass is valid on all local Metro bus and rail, as well as Foothill Silver Streak (between El Monte and Union Station only), Culver City Bus, GTrans, LA DASH, Torrance Transit, Long Beach Transit, Montebello Bus Lines, Norwalk Transit, Pasadena Transit, and Big Blue Bus.
For the Spring 2026 semester, no physical U-Pass cards will be distributed. Students must download the Metro TAP App and activate the digital U-Pass with the activation code from their receipt. For those students who have lost their physical U-Pass and are requesting a replacement, they will no longer be issued a card. For the Fall 2025 semester, the U-Pass is valid for 23 weeks beginning August 18, 2025 to January 25, 2026.
Yes, but we strongly recommend that you load the U-Pass that was originally issued to you when you purchased your first U-Pass. This will help your record with Commuter Services stay current and up to date.
Each student must activate their U-Pass after their on-line purchase with a unique 6-digit PERMIT/CODE # from their on-line receipt within 24 hours from purchase. The failure to do so will not make the U-Pass valid on the first day of classes.

When an on-line purchase has been made for a U-Pass, this unique 6-digit code PERMIT/CODE # will be generated. This PERMIT/CODE # can be found:
- On your receipt, next to the PERMIT/CODE#
- On the emailed receipt, next to the PERMIT/CODE#
- After you make your on-line purchase in your parking account under the PERMITS on the upper left-hand top of the page, then under the All Active Permits section under “PERMIT#".

This code can only be used once and must be activated within one business day after purchase.
Once activated, the the U-Pass can't be added to the app or removed from the app and added to a TAP Card. However, when the semester ends, then your U-Pass card can be added to your mobile device with a new activation code.

All lost U-Passes must be reported lost/stolen to Commuter Services first via email at [email protected]. The replacement cost is $25.
The U-Pass is a Metro transit pass sold by Cal State LA and is a non-refundable item. All sales for U-Pass are final.
Enrollment must be completed first to purchase a U-Pass.
