The Summer Program of Research Opportunities for Undergraduate Training (SPROUT) is a 15-week research training program for upper division undergraduate students who are enrolled in the Rongxiang Xu College of Health and Human Services at Cal State LA.
SPROUT scholars gain real-world experience working on active research with Cal State LA faculty during the summer and following Fall semester. The program also includes professional development workshops, a guest lecture series, a journal club and poster session at a symposium.
SPROUT is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Research Education Program and the goals of the program are to:
- prepare undergraduates interested in research careers to be competitive for placement in graduate research programs;
- enhance the diversity of researchers to meet the nation’s biomedical, behavioral and clinical needs for health and human services; and
- foster a better understanding of research career opportunities among undergraduate students at Cal State LA.
