Welcome to the Yoshie and Yoshiharu Ohara Virtual and Augmented Reality Immersive Learning Center. Our state-of-the-art virtual simulation lab was made possible by multiple generous donations that have allowed us to provide Cal State LA students access to innovative tools to further enhance their education. At the Ohara Center, learners participate in immersive simulated healthcare experiences designed to give them an opportunity to apply their knowledge in a challenging but safe environment. The Ohara Center focuses on building not just the skill-based competencies that clinicians need to provide high-quality care but also developing clinical reasoning, emotional intelligence, and thoughtful collaboration, which are crucial to addressing the disparities that exist in the current healthcare system. Clinical judgment and meaningful engagement are central to providing patient-centered care and the Ohara Center works to create opportunities for patient engagement and clinical problem-solving by leveraging virtual technologies to give learners opportunities that they do not receive in the classroom.

The Ohara Center is home to the Virtual Reality Fellows Program which utilizes Patricia A. Chin School of Nursing (PACSON) students to facilitate simulated experiences for their peers and near peers. The emphasis on peer-to-peer learning provides both facilitator and learner an opportunity to grow through engagement and guided reflection. The Ohara Center serves over 300 students per semester and is dedicated to sustained growth and continued innovation.
