Composition of Departmental Personnel Committees
The department annually elects 2 or 3 personnel committees.
The probationary and tenured faculty members of the department or equivalent unit shall elect a peer review committee(s) of tenured faculty members. When there are insufficient eligible members to serve on the peer committee, the department shall elect members from a related academic discipline(s).
(The Committees, as a whole, must take responsibility for the following tasks: Probationary Appointment; Temporary Appointment; Retention, Tenure and Promotion; Range Elevation; Evaluation of Temporary Faculty; Evaluation of Probationary Faculty; Evaluation of Tenured Faculty (Post-Tenure review); Evaluation for Request to Emeritus status; and Collaboration on the Development of Individual Professional Plans. It is required that each unit indicate below which Committee is responsible for each of these tasks.)

A faculty's professional performance is evaluated by the quality of the materials present in his or her file. The materials (though not exclusive of this list) include:
- Reviews of scholarly writings and the importance of the venues of exhibitions

1. Why is this degree more relevant for this position than a doctorate?
A Doctorate has not been available in the Studio Arts, Design and Animation until recently. An M.F.A. degree is considered to be the terminal degree by all major universities and academic environments. Tenured and tenure-track positons in these areas are most commonly held by persons with M.F.A. degrees.
2. What is the availability of a doctorate in this field?
Doctorate degrees are offered by a few new programs established at some American and foreign universities.
3. Does this degree provide a faculty member with the necessary background to do research, scholarly, or creative work in the University?
Yes
4. Is there a requirement of the specialized accrediting agency related to terminal degrees of faculty in the department? If so, what is that requirement?
The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree, in Studio Arts, Design and Animation, is the recognized terminal degree in the visual arts. The College Art Association (CAA), the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), and the vast majority of institutions in higher education within the United States consider the MFA to be equivalent to terminal degrees in other fields.

The MFA is considered to be the terminal degree at comparable institutions of higher learning.
