Services

Cal State LA students enrolled in a degree-seeking program and certain specialty programs have access to Student Health Center (SHC) services (refer to Eligibility for details). Most basic services are available at no out-of-pocket cost, some basic services and specialty services are offered at a reasonable cost.​

Family PACT Program

Family Planning Access Care Treatment (Family PACT) is a State of California program that offers no-cost family planning and related services, including free contraceptive methods, emergency contraception, and STI testing. The Student Health Center is a Family PACT participant and offers:

  • Family PACT application and client eligibility certification
  • No-cost family planning and related services (for Family PACT-eligible students)

Note: Family PACT is an optional program. Students who are not in the Family PACT program receive family planning and related services for reasonable fees (if applicable).

Basic Services

Certain basic services are provided to students at no out-of-pocket cost (e.g., healthcare provider visit, certain lab tests and medications, X-rays). Other basic services are offered at reasonable cost (e.g., immunizations, lab tests and medications).

Primary Care

  • Basic outpatient care, including illness and injury screening, diagnostic and/or treatment services
  • Family planning services
  • First aid
  • Preventive medicine
  • Referrals to off-campus healthcare providers and hospitals
  • Reproductive and sexual health care
  • Select physical exams (e.g., athletic, pre-employment, program-based)

Immunizations

A variety of immunizations are available at reasonable cost, including:

  • Hepatitis A & B
  • Human papillomavirus
  • Influenza (no cost for students)
  • Meningococcal disease
  • Measles, mumps & rubella
  • Tetanus, diphtheria & pertussis
  • Typhoid
  • Varicella (i.e., chicken pox)

Laboratory Testing

Certain lab tests are available at no cost (e.g., urine pregnancy tests). Other tests are available for reasonable fees (e.g., chem panel, HIV and STD testing). Available tests include:

  • Pregnancy testing
  • Testing to support illness screening and diagnosis
  • Chem panel 
  • Complete blood count 
  • Hemoglobin A1C
  • HIV testing
  • Immunity titers
  • Pap smear
  • STI testing

Pharmacy

The Student Health Center pharmacy offers medications for reasonable fees, including:

  • Over-the-counter medications (e.g., allergy and cold medications, vitamins)
  • Prescription medications

Radiology

  • Basic diagnostic X-rays
  • Chest X-rays to identify tuberculosis 

Mental Health

Counseling and Psychological Counseling

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides confidential and non-judgmental help with your personal growth and psychological wellness.

Psychiatry

Basic psychiatric care is available by referral from a Student Health Center CAPS or medical provider. Psychiatric services include:

  • Psychiatric evaluations and therapy
  • Medication management
  • Referral services

Specialty Clinics

These clinics offer reasonable-cost specialty care.

Chiropractic Clinic

Chiropractic care is provided by Los Angeles College of Chiropractic interns, supervised by a licensed chiropractor. The clinic offers:

  • Spinal adjustments
  • Treatment of low back and neck problems
  • Exercises for posture, movement, flexibility, endurance, strength, balance, and coordination

Massage Therapy

The clinic’s certified massage therapist offers:

  • Half-hour and hour-long acupressure
  • Zen Shiatsu and Jin Shin Jyutsu massage sessions
  • Sessions for employees

Optometry Clinic

Licensed optometrists offer:

  • Complete refraction
  • Glaucoma screening
  • Eye health evaluation
  • Single vision and bifocal lenses
  • Frames
  • Standard and disposable contact lenses

Preventive Dental Clinic
