Maria Rosas Wins Farvolden Best Poster Award for Hydrogeology Research

Maria Rosas, an MS Hydrogeology student at Cal State LA, has been awarded the Farvolden Best Poster Award at the Annual Meeting of the National Ground Water Association (NGWA). Along with the recognition, Rosas received a $1,000 prize for her poster presentation titled Hydrochemical and Isotopic Study of the Glendale Narrows Reach of the Los Angeles River.

The Farvolden Best Poster Award is a competitive poster scholarship for full-time undergraduate and graduate students who submit abstracts for poster presentations at the Science & Engineering Forum during Groundwater Week. Students whose abstracts are accepted present their research to be evaluated by judges, with the four highest-scoring participants awarded $1,000 scholarships.

Rosas' research explores hydrochemical and isotopic variations in the Glendale Narrows Reach of the Los Angeles River, providing valuable insights into water resource management and hydrogeology. This recognition highlights her dedication to advancing groundwater research.

This marks the second consecutive year that a Cal State LA student has won the Farvolden Award, with Camilla Bautista achieving the honor last year.

The Department of Geosciences and Environment at Cal State LA proudly celebrates this award, recognizing the dedication and excellence of its students in advancing research in the field.
