Peer Mentoring

COMD Mentoring Program - Habits for Success

COMD Habits for Success is a basic science and skills peer mentoring program for Communication Disorders students. This program aims to support academic success and promote a positive scholarly community in the department. Peer mentors work with small groups of students 2-4 hours per week, under the supervision of Dr. Simon-Cereijido. In addition to course material review, peer mentors and mentees frequently discuss general study skills (e.g., studying for exams, writing outlines), the graduate school application process, and career options. The majority of participating mentees rated the program as excellent and stated that after mentoring, they could understand course material better and improve their course grade and study skills. Students also instituted an "point system" for peer mentoring attendance that counts towards active membership to the student NSSLHA group.
