Collaborate with Cal State LA
COIL for International Faculty & Partners
Connect your students with Cal State LA students through meaningful, course-based international collaboration.
A global invitation
Build something together
Cal State LA faculty collaborate with colleagues around the world to create shared learning experiences for students. Partnerships may connect courses within the same discipline or bring different fields together around a common question, challenge, or project.
You do not need an existing Cal State LA connection to express interest.
How it works
From connection to collaboration
1. Connect
Begin with a Cal State LA colleague you already know or let us help explore a potential faculty connection.
2. Explore Fit
Faculty compare courses, calendars, student populations, learning goals, technology, and possible areas of collaboration.
3. Design Together
Faculty partners decide what students will do together and how the collaboration will fit within both courses.
A strong partnership
What we ask of faculty partners
COIL works best when both faculty members share responsibility for shaping the collaboration and creating a meaningful experience for students on both sides.
Shared Purpose
Identify a meaningful learning connection between the two courses.
Collaborative Planning
Make decisions together about activities, expectations, communication, and timing.
Student Interaction
Create opportunities for students to engage directly and learn with one another.
Practical Commitment
Work through calendars, time zones, technology, language, and other realities together.
About COIL Foundations
You do not need access to Cal State LA Canvas to collaborate with us
COIL Foundations is Cal State LA's faculty development course for Cal State LA faculty. International partners do not need to enroll in the Canvas course to begin or participate in a COIL partnership. Your Cal State LA faculty partner will use the course and other initiative resources to support the development of the collaboration.
