Spring 2023 Housing Application
The Office of Housing and Residence Life at California State University, Los Angeles, offers residence halls for first- and second-year students, and apartment-style housing accommodations for juniors, seniors and graduate students. Students have the opportunity to apply to participate in one of our Themed Communities (Halisi Scholars, Resident Scholars, Gender Inclusive and more). Due to limited spaces, new students will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Housing placement is not guaranteed, so we encourage you to apply early.
Please note, if you are a newly admitted undergraduate student for spring 2023, you must pay the $100 Enrollment Confirmation Deposit (ECD) before applying to live on campus. Only students who have paid their $100 ECD to confirm enrollment with Cal State LA will obtain access to the online housing application and license agreement. Once you pay the Enrollment Confirmation Deposit (ECD), it will take 2–3 days for you to gain access to apply online through the Housing Portal. You will not receive an email alert about this, so we encourage you to try logging on to the Housing portal daily.

Steps to Apply for Spring 2023
Step 1 – Fill Out the Online Housing Application and License Agreement in the Housing Portal
Log into the Housing Portal using your "MyCalStateLA" username and password and select the Housing Application Spring 2023. The system will take you step-by-step through each section of the application and Agreement. You will have the opportunity to indicate your preference for room type, Meal Plan, payment plan and other important reminders.
Step 2 – Make a $340 Payment
After you’ve completed the signature page in the Housing Portal, you will be redirected to the University’s CashNet system. There you’ll make a $340 payment (a $40 non-refundable application fee and $300 pre-payment). Follow these steps:
- When in CashNet, indicate payment option (credit, debit or e-check) and click on “Continue Checkout.”
- Then enter your payment information and click on “Continue Checkout.”
- Review and confirm that your payment information is correct and submit your payment.
- A payment receipt will appear that reflects the transaction.
- Click “Return to the Housing Application” at bottom of the page. Please be sure to do this step to ensure your payment confirmation information has been sent to our office.
Step 3 – Complete a Tuberculosis (TB) Screening Questionnaire
University policy requires that all residents provide proof that they are free of tuberculosis or that they are not high risk for tuberculosis each year. Please complete a Tuberculosis (TB) Screening questionnaire on the Student Health Center Patient Portal by January 9, 2023, and annually thereafter. To access the Patient Portal, log into MyCalStateLA and click the 'Student Health Center Patient Portal" icon, Clearances/Forms and then TB Screening.
To view Cal State LA’s tuberculosis policy and procedures for residents, visit the Student Health Center’s Registration Health Requirements and click on “Housing Residents.”
Step 4 – If You’re Under the Age of 18, Submit a Consent Form to Housing and Residence Life
This step must only be completed by applicants who are under the age of 18. The Consent Form must be signed by a parent or legal guardian who agrees with the terms and conditions of the spring 2023 License Agreement to provide authorization for medical treatment in case of an emergency. The form must be completed, signed and returned to the Office of Housing and Residence Life by the time you move in.
A Completed Application Includes:
- Completion of the online housing application and spring 23 License Agreement
- Payment of the $340 initial payment
You must complete the following prior to moving in:
- You must be cleared of TB Student from the Health Center
- Residents who are under 18 years old only: submission of a completed Consent Form to the housing office
Housing Assignment Process
Applicants are considered for housing placement on a first-come, first-serve basis. Once you apply and pay the $340 fee, you'll be assigned a space. You'll be assigned to a bed space based on availability. Students will receive an email to their Cal State LA email account, confirming their room reservation.
The Office of Housing and Residence Life is committed to equal opportunity in our housing facilities and will provide reasonable accommodations as determined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Fair Housing Act (FHA) policies and guidelines, on a case-by-case basis. If you are a “qualified individual” with a documented disability who requires ADA housing accommodations, please contact the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) for more information on the registration process. You can find out more on the OSD website or by contacting them at 323-343-3140 or [email protected].
Once you have received a housing assignment confirmation, you will be able to view your spring housing charges and make a payment on GET. Payment must be submitted by February 9, 2023. Students assigned after the payment deadline will be given 48 hours to make their spring payment. The due date and amount due will be posted on students' GET accounts. Failure to submit your payment by the deadline will result in the cancellation of your housing assignment and License Agreement. For Rates and Payments, visit our website. Please note that current prices reflect the 2022-2023 Academic Year prices. For spring 2023, divide the cost in half for room and board.
Housing Cancellation Policy and Procedures
Applicants who wish to cancel their spring 2023 Housing License Agreement may request to cancel by filling out the Cancellation Form Before the Start of the License Agreement by the cancellation deadline of December 21, 2023. Log into the Housing Portal, then click on the Housing Forms tab to access the Cancellation Form Before the Start of the License Agreement.
After December 21, students with a room reservation who wish to cancel will be required to fill out the Petition to Cancel Form and upload supporting documentation. All Petitions to Cancel are requests and must meet the conditions as specified in the License Agreement in the section entitled Cancellation Prior to Occupancy Without 30-day Notice [Section III.C.2 (Housing) and/or Section III.E.2 (Meal Plan)]. The Office of Housing and Residence Life reserves the right to approve or deny cancellation requests.
All cancellation requests must include supporting documentation for the reason for the cancellation request. Failure to provide supporting documentation will result in a delay of the petition review process. After the request form and supporting documentation have been submitted, it will take one to two weeks to review the petition. If approved for a housing cancellation, a student’s housing fees will be removed or adjusted according to the License Agreement Cancellation Policy.
Students who have made their spring housing payment will receive an email with move-in information on December 20. You may visit our Move-in page for more details on moving in, what to bring and what to expect.
