National organization honors director for Patrica A. Chin School of Nursing

Gail Washington, director for the Patricia A. Chin School of Nursing, will join the 2018 class of American Academy of Nursing fellows in recognition of her career as a distinguished leader and nurse educator.

Washington is the only member of the California State University system to be selected this year, alongside 194 other health care professionals from across the world.

The Academy is comprised of more than 2,500 members who work to reform America's health system through policy-based initiatives. To be selected, fellows must show a consistent contribution to nursing and health care and have a career that has positively influence their community.

Washington joined the Cal State LA faculty in 2002, teaching courses focused on health disparities and instrumental development, among other topics.

The Academy will honor Washington and other incoming fellows at its November conference in Washington D.C.
