Educational Tour of the Forensic Science Programs at Hertzberg-Davis Forensic Science Center

Embark on a unique Educational Tour of the Forensic Science Programs at Hertzberg-Davis Forensic Science Center, designed exclusively for prospective students, schools, and educational groups. The tour offers a fascinating insight into the roles and functions of forensic science in the justice system. Due to the nature of the material discussed, all tour participants must be at least 14 years of age. Requests for these exclusive tours must be submitted via email at least four weeks before the requested date. A finalized roster of attendees must be submitted via email at least one week before the tour date. Any visitor not included on the finalized roster will not be permitted to participate in the tour. Once your tour is scheduled, you will receive a confirmation email. We offer one tour each Friday for up to 30 individuals (including chaperones, teachers, parents).

The tour duration is approximately 2 to 2.5 hours. To ensure safety and a smooth experience, please note that food items, beverages, and open-toe shoes are not permitted in the laboratories. Any person wearing inappropriate footwear will not be allowed on the tour.

Educational tours are offered on the second and fourth Fridays of each month (10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.) during the Spring 2026 Semester, beginning Jan 23 through May 8, 2026. Tours include a presentation that describes the educational background and functions of a forensic scientist, as well as casework examples and demonstrations. We also provide a tour of our teaching and research laboratories. We are not authorized to give tours of the Los Angeles Police Department's Forensic Science Division or the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department's Scientific Services Bureau operational laboratories. You must contact these agencies directly for such tours.

Please note that your request for an educational tour is not finalized until you receive a confirmation email from Dr. Katherine Roberts. To complete your request, please send the tour form and the finalized list of attendees to Dr. Roberts at [email protected]
