The Commuter Services office provides faculty, staff and students with an extensive Rideshare program to assist you in your commute to Cal State LA.

Faculty and Staff Commuting Options

Cal State LA has many commuting options available to its Faculty and Staff. Whether you want to go green or just find an alternative to driving in traffic, we offer subsidies and incentives to help you find a better way to commute.

CAL STATE LA TRANSIT CENTER

The Cal State LA Transit Center hosts many local and express buses operated by both the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) and Foothill Transit. The Transit Center also features its very own Metrolink station, a first for a Southern California college campus. Metrolink's San Bernardino line travels east to Union Station via a single-track platform. Additionally, there are close to 18 bus lines that serve the Cal State LA campus and are operated by both the Metro and Foothill Transit. Both local and express bus lines serve the campus.  Monthly fare discounts are available for students; please visit either metro.net or FoothillTransit.org for further information.  Campus employees may also be eligible for monthly fare discounts.  Please contact Cal State LA Commuter Services for further details. 

There are close to 18 bus lines that serve the Cal State LA campus and are operated by both the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) and Foothill Transit. Cal State LA Transportation Services provides a monthly bus subsidy to University employees (some restrictions apply), full-time or part-time arriving to campus before 11:00 am and use public transit as an alternate mode of transportation to the University at least four (4) or more days per week. NOTE: SUBSIDIZED BUS PASSES ARE AVAILABLE FROM THE 1st TO THE 20th OF THE MONTH.

The Cal State LA Metrolink Station is located at the south end of the campus below the Metro busway. Cal State LA is the only university in Southern California to have a Metrolink train station on the campus. The Metrolink line that serves Cal State LA is the San Bernardino line, with stations in San Bernardino, Rialto, Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, Montclair, Claremont, Pomona North, Covina, Baldwin Park, and El Monte. Cal State LA Transportation Services provides a monthly rail subsidy to University employees (some restrictions apply), full-time or part-time arriving to campus before 11:00 am and use public transit as an alternate mode of transportation to the University at least four (4) or more days per week. Planning to get to Cal State LA by Uber, Lyft, or by Access Services?

Students can be dropped off at our two Uber/Lyft drop-off locations located at the Transit Center and the University Student Union (Building 5). 

For ACCESS Services, there are eight drop-off/pick-up locations on campus, each designated by a stand number. 

  • Stand 1 – Hertzberg -Davis Forensics Science at Building 43 
  • Stand 2 – By the Info Kiosk off Paseo Rancho Castilla 
  • Stand 3 – Student Union at Building 5 
  • Stand 4 – King Hall on Circle Drive 
  • Stand 5 – Circle Drive at Uber/Lyft stop by Building 15A across from Transit Center 
  • Stand 6 – South Village Towers at Building 50 
  • Stand 7 – North Village Apartments across from LAFC Complex at Building 36 
  • Stand 8 – Structure A – Top Level, by main structure elevator.

Employees, including student employees, who carpool and arrive at work before 11:00 am, may be eligible to receive preferred parking on campus. Employees who bring children to a licensed childcare facility within one mile from the campus may be eligible for carpool parking. Contact Commuter Services for details on the carpool program and program eligibility. The Transportation Services office also provides match lists to University members who are looking for potential rideshare partners.

Employees who walk or bike to campus are encouraged to sign-up in the Bicycle/Walker program. Participants in the Bicycle/Walker program can receive complimentary parking passes during inclement weather and receive incentives each semester

The Commuter Services office also has bicycle lockers available for rent for $10 for current students and $20 for faculty or staff per semester. Those not currently enrolled or affiliated with Cal State L.A. may rent a locker for $20, but priority is given to students and faculty/staff of Cal State L.A. Please contact Commuter Services for bicycle locker availability.

Free Bicycle Registration: Bring your bicycle to the Department of Public Safety along with your driver's license or Cal State L.A. ID and register your bicycle.

Employees, who do not drive to the campus but are dropped off by a non-campus member, may be eligible to receive incentives each semester for helping to reduce the pollutants emitted by vehicles arriving to the campus during the morning peak hours.

Due to COVID-19, the Commuter Vehicle Loan Program has been temporarily suspended.

There are several community-based shuttles that serve the Cal State LA campus. Currently Alhambra Community Transit (ACT), City of Commerce Transit, East Los Angeles Shuttle (El Sol), the Monterey Park Shuttle (Spirit), the Edelman’s Children’s Court Shuttle all stop on the south end of the campus during peak transit periods.

Concerned about getting home because of an unplanned event? In the event of an emergency, unplanned overtime, and/or family illness, the Guaranteed Return Trip Home Program offers employee participants a guaranteed ride home or to where their car is parked, at no cost to them. Zipcar is car-sharing program available for campus members 18 years and older. There are three (3) Zipcar vehicles located reserved spaces in Lot 5 in the southwest corner near Student Housing. These vehicles can be reserved in advance at a rate of $10.50 per hour. Annual membership fees also apply to Faculty and staff.
