Purpose:
The Benefits Administration Module processes and tracks CSU benefits eligibility and enrollment information.
Highlights of 9.2:
- eBenefits is enabled to provide employee access to self-service for enrollment in benefits
- Life Events in self-service provides a guided process for employees to initiate a change to their benefits due to a specific life event such as birth, adoption, marriage and divorce
- Activity guides can be used for specific CSU Life Events, and provide step-by-step instructions for completing the specific tasks such as birth, adoption, marriage, divorce, late enrollment, and parent-child relationship
- With the new Fluid interface, pages in the core module and in Employee Self-service will use visual tiles rather than menu options, and are designed to fit on mobile devices
Enrollment
Enrollments will be processed once the Benefits office receives a complete submision through Employee Self-Service, AND receives all required supporting documentation/information.
Voluntary Benefit enrollments are processed directly with the plan carrier. Please follow the carrier's instructions. Effective dates are determined by the plan carrier processing timeline.

Benefits are paid on a prospective basis the month prior to coverage. CalPERS transmits health premium information directly to the State Controller's Office (pay agent for Cal State LA). Due to unavoidable processing delays, your pay warrant may not immediately reflect proper benefit deductions. If this happens, the premium payment will be adjusted during a subsequent pay period and an Accounts Receivable (AR) will issue. The Benefits Office will notify an employee if this occurs, and provide next steps.
To enroll in benefits under a new hire/newly eligible event:
- Log in to MyCalStateLA Portal
- Go to HRM (CHRS) under Admin & Finance
- Select the Employee Self-Service Center on the left-hand drop down, if not already reflected.

Helpful Guides:
Certain Life Events allow the employee to enroll, make changes or cancel outside an Open Enrollment period due to qualified permitting events.
Most events require submission within 60 days of the life event, and take effective the first of the following month the life event occurred AND submission of all supporting documentation to the Benefits Office.
Examples of some Life Events are:
- New Born/Adoption
- Marriage/Domestic Partnership
- Divorce/Termination of a Domestic Partnership
- Involuntary Loss of Coverage (Enroll)
- Gains Other Coverage (Cancel)
- Parent-Child Relationship
Note: If you are currently enrolled in the VSP Premier Vision plan, you must complete the VSP Premier Enrollment Form and submit to the Benefits Office to add new dependents to your coverage.
