Mission
The Education Alumni Network supports a diverse community of education leaders, fostering connections and lifelong involvement with Cal State LA. The network's mission is to strengthen camaraderie among alumni while serving as a valuable resource for professional growth. Through various events and activities, the network helps graduates stay connected, pursue career advancement, and support our collective passion for teaching and learning.
All alumni, current students, staff, and faculty are invited to join any of our alumni networks.

Raul Cardoza (’67, ’73), Chair
Retired senior administrator
Los Angeles Community College District
Dr. Raul J. Cardoza is a retired Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) senior administrator. He is a first-generation student from Boyle Heights who attended Our Lady of Talpa School and Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary High School before matriculating to Cal State LA in 1962. After earning his degree in mathematics and teaching credential, he taught at Montebello High School before accepting a position at Occidental College as Assistant Dean of Admissions.
Upon completing his master’s degree in counseling at Cal State LA, Raul was hired as a counselor at Rio Hondo College, followed by East Los Angeles College (ELAC). At ELAC, he began his first management position as a coordinator in the Office of Instruction. Subsequently, he moved up the administrative ladder to become Vice President of Academic Affairs at Los Angeles Mission College and then at ELAC.
After earning his doctorate at the University of California, Los Angeles, he served as president of Chabot Community College. He then became provost of National Hispanic University, a small, private four-year college in San Jose, California. There, he led the school to receive accreditation. Next, he served as Western Regional Director of College Board before serving in the LACCD, where he retired from Los Angeles Trade Technical-College.
Since retiring, Raul has taught part-time in several higher education doctoral programs, including the University of Southern California and Cal State Northridge. He currently teaches at Cal State LA. After serving on the Cal State LA Alumni Board of Directors, he is now the alumni representative for the Education Alumni Network. He is also a member of the alumni board at ELAC.
