CORE Academic Programs

The COVID Retraining and Recovery (CORE) Fund is a collaboration between SoLa, Can Foundation, SEE-LA, and Watts Healthcare Corporation. The program is set up to provide up to 200 scholarships to South L.A. residents that have been laid-off or furloughed due to COVID-19. It will specifically focus on enabling vocational degrees in healthcare and technology in an effort to create jobs and pathways to economic advancement for South L.A.'s predominantly Black and Latinx community.

The following are pre-approved Cal State LA academic programs that are eligible to receive funding from CORE. Applicants are encouraged to select from among these programs. Core Scholarship and Application information can be found here.

Medical Billing and Coding

Financial Aid: Yes Prerequisites: High School Diploma or GED
Length: 3.5 months Salary Averages and Ranges: $44,015
Start Date: Fall Course Description: The Medical Billing and Coding Program prepares students to work in the healthcare industry to resolve insurance billing problems, manually file claims (using the CPT and ICD-10 manual), complete common insurance forms, trace delinquent claims, appeal denied claims, and use generic forms to streamline billing procedures.

Pharmacy Technician

Financial Aid: Yes Prerequisites: High School Diploma or GED; Math proficiency
Length: 2 months Salary Averages and Ranges: $32,000-$48,000
Start Date: Fall Course Description: The Pharmacy Technician Program is a comprehensive 10-week course that prepares students to work as a pharmacy technician in a retail or other pharmacy settings.

Healthcare Revenue Cycle Administration

Financial Aid: Yes Prerequisites: High School Diploma or GED
Length: 2 months Salary Averages and Ranges: $44,015
Start Date: Fall Course Description: The certificate program in Healthcare Revenue Cycle Administration will prepare students to work as a patient financial services/patient accounting representative in a healthcare setting.
