Fall 2023 Events

Meet the Director
August 29th & August 30th
Students had the opportunity to meet the new Director of the Honors College, Dr. Kathleen Cooke. This event facilitated meaningful connections and discussions about the future direction of the college.

Open House
September 19th
Our open house welcomed students to explore the Honors College spaces, meet the staff, and become part of our vibrant community.

Eurydice
October 15th
Honors College staff invited students to attend the school's play production of "Eurydice," offering a chance to appreciate the arts together.

Paint & Treat
October 31st
Students and staff gathered in the Honors College collaborative space to paint wooden pumpkins and enjoy tasty treats, celebrating Halloween with creativity and community.

Dia De Los Muertos
November 1st & November 2nd
In celebration of Dia De Los Muertos, students and staff visited the collaborative space for activities, treats, and an opportunity to learn about the tradition. An altar was created for the event, fostering cultural appreciation and community spirit.

Presentation on Anxiety
November 14th
In collaboration with the Student Health Center, this event focused on strategies to manage anxiety and ignite motivation, offering valuable insights and support for students.

Mini Thesis Symposium
December 5th
Our Fall 2023 graduating seniors presented their research at the Mini Thesis Symposium, showcasing their diverse and impressive projects and celebrating their academic achievements.

Cookies with Cooke
December 15th
An opportunity for Honors College students to chat with Dr. Cooke, discuss their experiences, and share their insights in a relaxed setting over cookies.

Spring 2024 Events

Spring Kickoff
January 25th
This event marked the beginning of the spring semester, featuring community-building activities and sharing the exciting events planned for the semester.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities at Cal State LA with Edith Porter
March 5th
Dr. Edith Porter discussed the range of research opportunities available to undergraduates, both on and off-campus, providing practical advice on starting research projects.

Stress Busters 101
March 18th
Hosted by the Early Entrance Program, this coaching session offered strategies to tackle stress, promoting mental well-being among students.

LinkedIn Latte
April 9th
In this collaborative event with the Career Center, students enjoyed coffee while learning about building standout LinkedIn profiles, effective networking, and leveraging LinkedIn for career success.

Eclipse Viewing Party
April 8th
Co-hosted by the Honors College, NSS, Department of Physics and Astronomy, and EEP, this event allowed students to safely view a partial solar eclipse using special viewing glasses and telescopes provided by the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Get Caught Reading on World Book Day
April 23rd
This event celebrated reading within the Honors community. Students who were "caught reading" in the Honors College and EEP spaces received leadership points and shared their love for literature.

Senior Thesis Symposium
April 26th
Our graduating seniors presented their research at the Senior Thesis Symposium, showcasing their diverse and impressive projects. This event was a fantastic opportunity to support our graduates and learn about their contributions to their fields of study.
