Spring 2024 Enrichment Activities

Our Enrichment Activities, online and in person, cover various topics to help you maximize your experience at Cal State LA. EOP students must attend a minimum of three Enrichment Workshops per semester. If you are experiencing academic challenges, please contact your EOP counselor.

If you attend a non-EOP workshop or activity(university workshop/event), let us know by filling out the Enrichment Activity Attendance Form.

February

2/22 – Growth Zone Study Night 1

6 – 8:00 p.m.

Growth Zone Study Nights provide a safe and welcoming space for EOP students to come study alone or with friends. Students will have access to SI leaders who can support them in Statistics and Pre-calculus, as well as GZ Mentors who can provide on the spot study skills advice and mentoring.


2/23 – Faculty are Humans Too!

1 – 2:00 p.m.

This workshop will be set as a panel discussion with the purpose of promoting faculty and student engagement.  The goal is for students to understand that faculty are approachable and that they should not fear them or feel intimidated by them.  Fun interactive activities will be done to reduce the fear and stress that arise when meeting with professors/lecturers.  Also, students will learn from faculty the importance of using office hours.

Students will learn how to create a solid plan for new opportunities to improve their grades, students will learn communication techniques with their professors, acceptance, organizational skills, using the writing, tutoring center, and library services

3/1 – EOP Career Readiness for Beginners

Career Readiness for Beginners will provide strategies for students to take their first steps in career preparation and development as a 1st Gen professional. Topics include: employability skills, networking, mentorship, opportunity search & available resources. It is never too early to start talking about Career Readiness.


3/1 – Am I on the Right Track? General Education and Pre-Major Planning for Timely Graduation

Review the Lower Division General Education (GE) chart and University Graduation requirements. Learn Pre-Major (Major Specific Criteria) to declare a major. Explore Degree Planner, and Major Road Maps and participate in an educational planning activity. 


3/5 – Scholarship Planning 

3:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Students will learn about scholarship opportunities, dates and deadlines. Students will have the opportunity to learn, plan, execute a search for scholarships, apply, and gain helpful writing tips for their personal statement.

Have a wellness day where students and their peers can perform while singing their hearts out. Enjoy listening to some classic oldies to the newest modern hits! Song selection must be submitted at the time of signing up for review and approval.

This workshop will introduce or re-introduce on-campus services, resources, and tools available to students to use. Students will learn about various on-campus offices that contribute to supporting, maintaining, and achieving mental wellness, self-care, and academic success.


3/29 – Comfortable Being Uncomfortable Reframing Imposter Syndrome

This workshop will help students learn about imposter syndrome and new ways to overcome things that make them feel uncomfortable or isolated.

4/16 – Do You Feel Connected to Cal State LA?

This virtual workshop will explore how first-year students are connecting to a university setting. Students will be encouraged to share their experiences thus far with adjusting to campus life at Cal State LA. Students will learn how to develop and maintain a feeling of connectedness and a sense of belonging to Cal State LA. Students will also learn the importance as well as the benefits of feeling connected to the university and how it can contribute to one's social engagement and academic success.  


4/19 – Why It's Okay to Fail Your First Year

This workshop highlights factors contributing to why students typically don't do well their first year and emphasizes that failure is a part of the learning process.

Reflection on the past academic year provides the opportunity to look at the highs and lows, the wins and the losses, to evaluate in a way that can improve overall outcomes for next year. Students will learn to self assess, set goals, and support each other.
