SAFETY FIRST

Cal State LA is committed to creating a safe and comfortable experience for the graduating students and their guests at the Shrine Auditorium. All attendees will go through security checkpoints, metal detectors, and possible bag searches. To hold your personal belongings, we recommend a small bag that you can easily carry. Backpacks and large bags will not be allowed. Smoking cigarettes and electronic cigarettes are only allowed at designated locations. Please make sure to read all the guidelines provided below. 

Guidelines

All attendees should expect an environment where:

  • All attendees will be treated in a consistent, professional, and courteous manner by all personnel.
     
  • All attendees agree to follow the venue’s health and safety policies, as well as all applicable Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance, local, state and federal orders, regulations and ordinances pertaining to health and safety at all times while at the venue. Health and safety policies may be posted throughout the venue and on tickets.
     
  • All attendees are not allowed to consume alcoholic beverages at the event and venue. Intervention with an impaired, intoxicated, or underage attendee will be handled in a prompt and safe manner. Cal State LA and the Shrine Auditorium reserve the right to deny entry into the venue and/or refuse service to attendees displaying visible signs of impairment/intoxication.
     
  • All attendees must always possess a valid ticket and/or credential and provide it when requested.
     
  • All attendees are permitted to sit or stand during the ceremony if they are only occupying the area in front of their ticketed seat. Standing in aisles, and/or on chairs is strictly prohibited.
     
  • All attendees who engage in disruptive behavior (including foul/abusive language or obscene gestures), fighting, throwing objects, or attempting to enter the stage will be immediately ejected from the venue.
     
  • All attendees will not smoke inside the venue and will only do so at designated locations.
     
  • All attendees will comply with all requests from Cal State LA staff and/or venue personnel regarding facility operations and emergency response procedures.
     
  • All attendees are expected to report any incident, concern, or inappropriate behavior to Cal State LA staff and/or venue personnel as soon as possible.
     
  • The Shrine Auditorium security staff have been trained to intervene where necessary to help ensure that the above expectations are met, and attendees are encouraged to report any inappropriate behavior to the nearest security. Attendees who choose not to adhere to these provisions will be subject to ejection and may also violate city ordinances resulting in possible arrest and prosecution. Venue Management reserves the right to approve, adjust, or enforce any policy at their discretion.

The following items are not allowed inside the Shrine Auditorium as listed on the venue's website:

  • Outside food or beverage including candy and gum
     
  • Alcohol
     
  • Drugs, drug paraphernalia, illegal substances
     
  • Personal medication in unmarked bottles - All Medication subject to medic screening upon entry
     
  • Oversized purses or backpacks (anything over 14”H x 14”W x 6”D)
     
  • Weapons, ammunition, tasers, explosives, fireworks, tear gas, pepper spray, pocket knives/blades of any size
     
  • Pets (with the exception of service animals)
     
  • Glass bottles, metal cans, cups or coolers, camelbaks, bota bags, plastic or metal water bottles
     
  • Instruments, noise making devices (i.e. horns, cowbells, whistles)
     
  • Blankets and chairs
     
  • Strollers
     
  • Flags on poles or sticks, beach balls, frisbees, helium balloons
     
  • Laser pointers, light gloves, LED micro lights, flashlights or glow sticks
     
  • Stickers, flyers, posters, sharpies/markers, spray paint
     
  • Water guns, toy replica weapons, squirt bottles, soap bubbles, slingshots
     
  • Skateboards or roller skates
     
  • Drones or remote control aircraft, cars or toys
     
  • Items that challenges public safety

Commencement welcomes service animals. A service animal is defined as a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability.  The task(s) performed by the dog must be directly related to the person’s disability.

Animals whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the Americans with Disabilities Act cannot be brought inside the event venue.
