R. “Kelly” Kelly is a Chartered Investment Counselor (C.I.C.) with over 40 years experience in the securities profession. He is also the recipient of this year’s Distinguished Alumnus Award from the College of Business & Economics. He was born in downtown Los Angeles and grew up two miles from Cal State L.A.

After graduating from Garfield High School, he worked as an iceman and gas station attendant. He attended East Los Angeles Junior College. Kelly received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from California State University, Los Angeles and has completed additional studies at the Wharton School of Finance.

Over the course of twenty-five years Kelly served as president and vice-president for several national investment management firms. He earned his California Teaching Credential and taught investments in local high schools and at Saddleback College.

In 1987, Kelly founded Spectrum Asset Management, which now controls $300 million in managed assets. Spectrum’s clients are individuals and trust with liquid assets of $1 million to $20 million. At the age of 79, he earned an MBA from Pepperdine University.
