Cal State LA Takes First in their World at ICBSC Again

ICBSC 2016 For the second year in a row, the Cal State LA team won Outstanding Performance (first place) in their World at the International Collegiate Business Strategy Competition (ICBSC) in Anaheim. Congratulations to students Ryuichi Matsushita, Alena Tran, Maria Garcia, and Yau Lam and mentor Dr. Laura Whitcomb for managing their company to the top!

In the ICBSC competition, each team takes over the management of a simulated manufacturing company competing directly against 4-5 other teams in its Simulated World. The competition supports 5 to 6 Worlds, divided into graduate and undergraduate. The team assumes responsibility for key strategic and operational decisions in marketing, finance, and operations.

The competition requires dedication as well as business acumen. Students must submit weekly decisions and reports beginning in February, striving to outperform the other teams on a number of financial and strategic measures until the culminating onsite event April 21-23.

ISBSC meet The competition structure is similar to the business analysis project students complete in their capstone course. Students like Maria Garcia, who found the capstone project exciting, are drawn to the challenging event. As Company 6 in the undergraduate World 2, our team surpassed teams from Willamette University, Cal State Sacramento, Cal State San Bernardino, McMaster University, and San Diego State. Thanks Dr. Whitcomb for your support and to Ryuichi, Alena, Maria and Yau for your hard work. You make us proud!
