Cal State LA’s ALPFA Chapter Earns the 2017 National Student Chapter Award

The members of the Cal State LA chapter of ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals for America) exceeded their expectations in August when they earned both the National and Western Regional Student Chapter of the Year Awards for 2017 at ALPFA’s national conference in Las Vegas. The chapter earned Western Regional honors in 2016.

The national organization recognized the Cal State LA chapter, “for their exemplary commitment to ALPFA’s mission through their local impact, programs, community engagement, membership growth, regional participation and national support." Alumni who established the chapter in 2008 would be proud to see the club’s growth to over 70 members in 2017. Upon hearing the news, Dr. Kathy Hansen remarked, “As one of the advisors for ALPFA, I am extremely proud of and impressed with the members and officers who have dedicated much time and effort to help members navigate the transition from the university to the business world.”

ALPFA’s leadership earned the honor by holding over 70 meetings and events in the 2016-17 school year. The club holds community service, fundraising, professional development and social events supporting the organization’s mission to empower and develop Latino men and women as leaders of character for the nation, in every sector of the global economy.

Club meetings feature guest speakers from top companies including Ernst & Young, Ticketmaster, and Univision.  Members develop a commitment to giving back through monthly community service opportunities around L.A. and strengthen professional skills through resume writing, networking and mock interview workshops. While they work hard, ALPFA members know how to enjoy life hosting regular fundraising and social events.

Open to all Cal State LA students, now is a great time to join ALPFA. Find them on Facebook and the College of Business and Economics Student Club page.
