Coursework deadlines:
- Applying for Fall 2026 → Finish required coursework by Spring 2026.
- Applying for Spring 2027 → Finish required coursework by Summer 2026.

If your major has a “deemed similar” Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT): You’ll see two sets of criteria—one for applicants completing the ADT before transfer and one for those not completing the ADT.

Major Specific Criteria (MSC) by Program
Note: The Criminal Justice major prepares students for careers in criminal justice administration, not for work in criminalistics or forensic science. If you’re interested in criminalistics/forensic science, consider majoring in one of these fields instead: Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Natural Sciences, or Physics
Transfer students completing an approved Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) in a major deemed similar:
- Required ADT major: Administration of Justice
- Required minimum cumulative GPA: 2.65
Transfer students not completing the ADT:
- Required minimum cumulative GPA: 2.75
- Required major preparation courses (grade of "C" or better required):
- CRIM 1010 – Introduction to Administration of Justice
- CRIM 1260 – Concepts of Criminal Law
- Required General Education courses (grade of "C-" or better required):
- English Composition
- Oral Communication
- Critical Thinking and Composition
- Mathematical Concepts and Quantitative Reasoning
- Additional recommended major preparation courses (grade of "C" or better required):
- CRIM 2010 – Correctional Systems
Fire Protection Administration is a degree completion program, which means you must first complete the required courses at a community college.
⚠️ Note: These courses are not offered at Cal State LA.
All transfer students:
- Required minimum cumulative GPA: 2.0
- Required major preparation courses (grade of "C" or better required):
- Fire Protection Systems; or equivalent
- Principles of Emergency Services; or equivalent
- Fire Prevention; or equivalent
- Building Construction for Fire Protection; or equivalent
- Fire Behavior & Combustion; or equivalent
- Principles of Fire & EMS Safety and Survival; or equivalent
- An additional six units of Fire Protection and Administration Technology-related courses
- Required General Education courses (grade of "C-" or better required):
- English Composition
- Oral Communication
- Critical Thinking and Composition
- Mathematical Concepts and Quantitative Reasoning
Bachelor of Music Applicants
- Admission is based on academic criteria and a faculty audition.
- Faculty will determine whether applicants are considered for the BM or BA program.
- Audition details are available from the Music Department.
- For Fall 2026 admission, a supplemental admission audition requirement must be completed by February 6, 2026. The Music Department will email additional audition details to Fall 2026 applicants in December 2025.
All transfer students:
- Required minimum cumulative GPA: 2.0
- Required General Education courses (grade of "C-" or better required):
- English Composition
- Oral Communication
- Critical Thinking and Composition
- Mathematical Concepts and Quantitative Reasoning
Cal State LA Nursing programs are in very high demand and have limited space.
In addition to the Cal State Apply application, applicants must also submit a separate NursingCAS application to the Patricia A. Chin School of Nursing. For Fall 2026 admission, the NursingCAS deadline is Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 8:59 p.m. (Pacific Standard Time).
To be considered for admission to the major, applicants must meet the minimum academic requirements indicated below. Those who meet these minimum criteria will be ranked for admission based on their cumulative GPA, GPA in prerequisite courses, TEAS exam results, Military Status, Cal State LA Local Preference status, and health-care work or volunteer experience. ⚠️ Important:
- You can apply only once to the Cal State LA Nursing program.
- You must be either:
- A Cal State LA Pre-Nursing student, or
- A new transfer applicant
- Students admitted under a different major cannot switch into Nursing later.
Minimum requirements for transfer student consideration:
- Required minimum cumulative GPA: 3.25
- Required major preparation courses (grade of "B" or better required in the first attempt):
- BIOL 2030 – Human Anatomy
- BIOL 2040 – Human Physiology
- CHEM 1010 – Fundamentals of Chemistry
- One of the following three statistics courses:
- ECON 1090 – Quantitative Reasoning with Statistics
- EDFN 1090 – Introduction to Statistics and Data Interpretation
- MATH 1090 – Quantitative Reasoning with Statistics with Lab
- MICR 2010 – Microbiology for Health Related Sciences
- MICR 2020 – Microbiology Laboratory for Health Related Sciences
- Required General Education courses (grade of "B" or better required in the first attempt):
- English Composition
- Oral Communication
- Critical Thinking and Composition
- Mathematical Concepts and Quantitative Reasoning: If not satisfied by the required math courses above
- Required assessment:
- TEAS score at or above the 40th percentile in all content areas
- Additional recommended major preparation courses (grade of "C" or better required):
- NTRS 2500 – Human Nutrition
- PSY 1500 – Introductory Psychology
- SOC 2010 – Introduction to Sociology
Transfer students completing an approved Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) in a major deemed similar:
- Required ADT major: Psychology
- Required minimum cumulative GPA: 2.9
Transfer students not completing the ADT:
Priority consideration: Students who complete (or will complete by Spring 2026) an approved Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) in Psychology at a California Community College.
After ADT applicants: Other CSU-eligible transfer applicants without the ADT may be admitted only if space is available.
Transfer students completing an approved Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) in a major deemed similar:
- Required ADT major: Social Work and Human Services
- Required minimum cumulative GPA: 2.65
Transfer students not completing the ADT:
- Required minimum cumulative GPA: 2.75
- Required major preparation courses (grade of "C" or better required):
- One of the following two courses:
- PSY 1500 – Introductory Psychology
- SOC 2010 – Introduction to Sociology
- One of the following three statistics courses:
- ECON 1090 – Quantitative Reasoning with Statistics
- MATH 1090 – Quantitative Reasoning with Statistics with Lab
- SOC 2100 – Elementary Statistics
- One of the following two courses:
- Required General Education courses (grade of "C-" or better required):
- English Composition
- Oral Communication
- Critical Thinking and Composition
- Mathematical Concepts and Quantitative Reasoning: If not satisfied by the required math courses above
All transfer students:
- Required minimum cumulative GPA: 2.5
- Required General Education courses (grade of "C-" or better required):

Admission: All other majors not listed above admit transfer students who meet the minimum CSU admission requirements.
