The Afro Latin Ensemble to Perfrom in China

Beijin, China

Dr. Paul De Castro and the Afro Latin Ensemble have been invited to perform at the 29th World Conference of the International Society for Music Education (ISME) held in Beijing, August 1-6, 2010. The ensemble is among a select group of ensembles chosen to represent the myriad styles and genres that reflect the musical diversity of our globe. Being selected from the 100s of groups that applied is a wonderful honor for Dr. De Castro and the ensemble. It is also a superb opportunity to showcase the Department of Music and our fine musical programs.  In addition to concerts in Beijing, the ensemble will travel to the city of Tianjin for a performance in their Concert Hall.

The ensemble needs your help.  As we all know, it is a difficult budgetary time and many of our students have limited resources to pay for such a trip.  To make it possible for all of the students in the Afro Latin Ensemble to travel and perform with the group, the Department of Music is inviting benefactors to help the group pay for this opportunity.  Donations to assist the group can be sent by check or made by credit card.  If you would like to send a check, please write your check to “CSULA Music Department” and mail to: Afro Latin China Trip, Department of Music, 5151 State University Drive, Los Angeles CA 90032-8102.  If you would like to make a donation by credit card, please click on this link.  All donations supporting the Afro Latin Ensemble are tax deductible.

About the Conference
ISME holds a world conference every two years in a different country and invites selected ensembles to perform. The 2010 world conference looks to be the largest ever and will attract thousands of music educators who teach in universities, public and private schools, and community music programs from around the world and within China.  The conference is a weeklong mosaic of seminars, workshops and concerts that will be held in the former Olympic venues.
