Graduate Admissions

Applicants must have a baccalaureate in anthropology and a 2.75 grade point average in the last 90-quarter units attempted and a B (3.0) grade point average in anthropology courses. Those whose undergraduate major was not anthropology must complete 20-32 units in anthropology, including ANTH 497, with a B average. Students’ actual number of units required will be determined by advisement during their first semester of postbaccalaureate study.

The Anthropology Department accepts new graduate students into the program in both fall and spring semesters. Applicants should apply to the university through Cal State Apply (https://www2.calstate.edu/apply) and separately to the department. Complete the application packet and include a statement of purpose, two letters of recommendation, and unofficial transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Email the completed packet to [email protected]. Completed applications must be submitted to the Department of Anthropology by the application deadlines listed below:

Fall admissions deadline: March 16th

Spring admissions deadline: October 1st
