Congratulations on reaching this stage of your educational journey. We are excited that you have chosen Cal State LA as your university home.

Cal State LA offers new student orientation during the winter (January) for students admitted for the Spring 2026 semester and in the summer for students admitted for the Fall 2026 semester (June-August). 

Once you have been conditionally admitted, you will have the opportunity to pay your Enrollment Confirmation Deposit. This is the next important step in journey into Cal State LA.

New transfer and returning students admitted for Fall 2026 will begin receiving email invitations to sign up for First Flight in February 2026. Please follow the steps in the email to complete your Orientation reservation.

 

Summer 2026

    • Students selecting this date must participate in the 2-day/overnight program

    • This is the First Flight date for ALL students in the colleges of Engineering, Computer Science & Technology (ECST) and Ethnic Studies (CES).

In-person First Flight sessions take place on the campus of Cal State LA.

Limited spaces are available for students who live outside of the local area, will be out of the state or country during all of the above-listed dates, or have a personal circumstance resulting in your being physically unable to attend an in-person session. 

Remote sessions take place live over Zoom; available spaces are based on your major/college and are first come, first served.

Please note that academic advising and course enrollment will take place in a separate session.

Orientation Tours not only take you around the campus, but they will also highlight where your fall classes will be located! After you have finished enrolling in classes, sign up for an Orientation Tour. There is no charge for this activity, but a reservation is required (RSVPs open in July 2026).

Fall 2026: What's Next?

►Download the Cal State LA GETMobile App!

Download GETMobile app to view your class and exam schedules and other useful info. Log in to GETmobile from your phone with your #MyCalStateLA ID username (e.g., jsmith1) and password. For more info, visit the ITS GETmobile page.

► Complete your Orientation reservation

Reserve your spot while spaces are available. Orientation dates are first come, first served!

► Finish the Pre-Orientation

Located in your Student Portal on the left-hand side; click the “Online Orientation” tab.

► Check your Orientation Task List

There are many important items you will need to take care of before you can enroll in classes, including verifying the status of your financial aid award package (if applicable). Please pay careful attention to all the items on your Orientation Task List, and be sure to reach out with questions if anything is unclear.

► Participate in academic advisement and registration

  • You will be contacted by your academic advisement center with information regarding your upcoming first-term courses. Be sure to check your email and follow all instructions so you can enroll in courses as soon as possible.
  • During your in-person orientation date, you will also be able to meet with advisors from your college to assist with the registration process. For further resources on academic advising, visit the Academic Advising Student Resource page.
  • NOTE: You will not be able to sign up for individual advising appointments until after orientation. 

► Join your First Flight Orientation House!

  • New students will automatically be sorted into a First Flight House
  • Make friends and network with your fellow new students, even before Orientation!
  • Get your questions answered by the Orientation Leader team
  • You will receive an email inviting you to use your GETMobile app to join the online community
