Dr. Mulherin joined the Department of Geography, Geology, and the Environment in 1999 after completing his Ph.D. in Geography from The Ohio State University. He also held a master’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from SUNY Buffalo. In Fall 2023, Dr. Mulherin began an early retirement to pursue his many passions, including photography, travel, and enjoying time with his family and friends. A devoted father, he often spoke of his joy in exploring national parks, visiting nearly every U.S. state, and sharing his love for the outdoors with his son.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Rhonda Mulherin, their son Aidan, and his sister Tracey, along with many cherished friends and extended family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at White Emerson Mortuary in Whittier, California, with a reception to follow. The College of Natural and Social Sciences extends its deepest condolences to the Mulherin family and all who knew and loved him.
