Cal State LA’s student-run history journal, Perspectives, has been awarded First Prize in the Online Graduate Journals category of the Nash History Journal Prize. This national honor is presented by the Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society and recognizes outstanding student work and editorial excellence in graduate-level history publications across the country.

Perspectives is produced annually in print and online by undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of History. The journal highlights the primary source research completed in HIST 4970, a course taught by Dr. Pfleger, and provides students with hands-on experience in writing, editing, and publishing historical scholarship. Students in the Eta Xi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta are responsible for all editorial decisions and the final production of the journal.

This award reflects the high quality of the research and editorial work submitted for this year’s competition. The winning volume includes articles, book reviews, and special features that demonstrate both rigorous historical analysis and a strong understanding of contemporary discussions within the discipline. The editorial team has been recognized for its commitment to accuracy, clarity, and thoughtful engagement with primary sources.

The Nash History Journal Prize celebrates journals that contribute meaningfully to historical scholarship and that support student development in research and academic writing. Cal State LA and the Eta Xi Chapter view this recognition as a significant milestone for the journal and an achievement that represents the hard work and dedication of the students who published the most recent volume of Perspectives.

Readers are invited to access the newest issue through the journal’s webpage on the Cal State LA website.
