Cal State LA Department of Physics and Astronomy Alumni Group Annual Lecture & Dinner

Date and time
Thursday, March 19, 2026 - 4:30pm to 6:45pm
Location
Cal State LA Golden Eagle Ballroom
Description

Astronomical observations suggest that about 85% of the matter in the universe exists in an invisible, yet-to-be-discovered form known as dark matter. Unveiling its nature remains one of the most compelling challenges in modern physics.

One of the leading efforts is LUX ZEPLIN (LZ), the U.S. flagship dark matter experiment. In this talk, Dr. Kamaha will discuss the astrophysical evidence for dark matter, review key theoretical candidates, and describe direct detection strategies, emphasizing the TPC approach used by LZ.
