Cal State LA Alumna Joins University President at Historic East LA Parade

Cal State LA made a historic debut at the 79th Annual East Los Angeles Mexican Independence Day Parade & Festival, the largest and oldest Latin parade in the United States.

For the first time in the University’s history, Cal State LA was represented in the parade by President Berenecea Johnson Eanes, who was joined by California State Senator Sasha Renée Pérez, an alumna of the College of Natural and Social Sciences. Senator Pérez, who earned a BA in Political Science and a BS in Economics at Cal State LA, has emerged as a leading voice in state government and continues to serve as an example of the University’s commitment to public service and leadership development.

The parade drew thousands of spectators along Cesar Chavez Avenue and featured colorful floats, mariachi musicians, dancers, and community organizations celebrating Mexican heritage and independence. Cal State LA’s delegation included students, faculty, staff, and the University’s Cheer Squad, who brought energy and Golden Eagle pride to the event.
