If you were academically disqualified from Cal State LA, you must meet with an academic advisor to discuss your readiness to return to Cal State LA. Review the requirements and steps below before applying.
Note:
- Students who left in academic disqualification standing do not qualify for the Return from Education Leave process.
- If you were academically disqualified from Cal State LA, you must reapply for admission if it has been two or more semesters since you last attended. If you have been absent for one semester or less, you may meet with an advisor to find out if you qualify for Reinstatement and not have to reapply to the University.
Readmission Steps for Students Returning from Disqualification
- Within 1 week after submitting your Cal State Apply application, reach out to an academic advisor in the major you are seeking readmission to.
- To schedule your advising appointment: Email the Academic Advisement Center for your intended major.
- Not sure which major to return to? Contact the University Academic Advisement Center (UAAC) at [email protected] for help.
- After your meeting, your advisor will submit the Petition for Readmission from Disqualification to the Admissions Office.
- If you are changing majors, you must also:
- Meet the Major-Specific Criteria for the new major (if applicable)
- Receive support from your previous major department
- Make sure to submit any other documents requested by the Admissions Office.
Important: Readmission is not guaranteed - you must also meet the admission requirements for your specific returning student type (Returning Student or Returning Transfer).
Cal State LA GPA
To return to Cal State LA in good academic standing, you must meet the minimum Cal State LA GPA requirements listed below:

The Cal State LA GPA is calculated based on your Cal State LA coursework only. If your Cal State LA GPA does not meet the above minimum GPAs, you may be considered for readmission on special academic notice.
Additional Notes
- Coursework completed at another college may improve your overall GPA, but it will not change your Cal State LA GPA.
- To improve your Cal State LA GPA, you may take courses through Open University offered by PaGE.
- Meeting the minimum GPA and waiting period does not guarantee readmission.
