Education is the utmost essential social engagement in all aspects of human affairs. Welcome and thank you for your interest in the Charter College of Education (CCOE) at the California State University, Los Angeles. CCOE is the first and only in the nation that has the “charter” identity, given by the Cal State System, which allows us to be innovative, creative, flexible and critically engaged in urban public education for its much needed transformation for inclusive education for all. The college’s mission is to be critically and timely responsive to the contemporary PreK- 20 education needs in light of developing in CCOE students the professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions to enhance the academic, social, emotional, physical, linguistic, cultural and spiritual development of diverse learners in urban schools and related educational agencies. Our CCOE faculty and students are working together with the nations’ second largest public school system, Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) as well as various public, private, and international partners to advance urban public education. The college has three divisions: Applied and Advanced Studies in Education; Curriculum and Instruction; and Special Education and Counseling. The college combines small classes, high quality innovative instruction and pedagogy, and research based best practices, which all are grounded in urban schools, classrooms and other community settings where our graduates and community educational partners work.
The CCOE has a Conceptual Framework with a vision statement that guides our work: "Promoting an inclusive environment to support caring professional educators for the future, so that all learners achieve their fullest potential". The Conceptual Framework and information on people and programs are provided on this CCOE website.
