Welcome and thank you for your interest in the Charter College of Education (CCOE) at Cal State LA. Our College combines small classes, high quality instruction, and research based best practices, which all are grounded in urban schools, classrooms and community settings where our graduates work. Our faculty are our greatest asset we have to offer you. Each is enormously talented in their area of expertise and is committed to furthering your education to meet your career goals. We offer daytime and evening classes, working with your schedule to accommodate your needs.
The CCOE has a
Conceptual Framework with a vision statement that guides our work: "Promoting an inclusive environment to support caring professional educators for the future, so that all learners achieve their fullest potential". The Conceptual Framework and information on people and programs are provided on the CCOE website.
The College offers undergraduate degree programs for prospective elementary and special education teachers in Urban Learning. This major will allow Multiple Subjects (elementary) teachers to complete their degree requirements and credential requirements at the same time. Special education teachers can complete their degree requirements and the internship requirements at the same time. This degree and credential is designed to prepare teachers to work effectively with diverse students in urban settings. We also offer an undergraduate degree program in Rehabilitation Services, which prepares students to work in a variety of settings to advance the independence, integration, and full participation of individuals with rehabilitation needs.
The credentials programs we offer are extensive. We offer credential programs in Single Subject (authorizing you teach in middle schools and high schools); Multiple Subject (authorizing you teach in elementary schools); Special Education: Visual Impairments, Orientation and Mobility, Mild/Moderate Disabilities, Moderate/Severe Disabilities, Physical and Health Impairments, Early Childhood Special Education; Pupil Personnel Services (authorizing you to work as a school counselor or school psychologist); Educational Administration, and Reading & Language Arts Specialists. Most of these programs also offer internship opportunities.
Our masters' degree programs(Master of Arts and Master of Science) are numerous and offer a wide array of options for you to consider in the development of leadership and professional skills related to education. We offer a Joint Doctoral Program with the University of California, Los Angeles in Special Education. We have recently launched an Education Doctorate program in Educational Leadership
